OXFORD, Miss. — After dropping the doubles point, the No. 16 LSU women’s tennis team could not come up with the win as No. 28 Ole Miss (11-7, 4-5 SEC) defeated the Lady Tigers, 5-2.
“Ole Miss played a very good match, and until we learn how to play with the same intensity on the road that we play with at home, we won’t get better,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We have to learn how to play with that same intensity in order to stay competitive.”
In singles, 17th-ranked Megan Falcon put the Lady Tigers on the board on court one as she took down No. 29 Kristi Boxx 6-1,6-3. Falcon checks in with a 29-16 season record with 13 wins over nationally ranked opponents.
On court three, freshman Whitney Wolf fell to Laura van de Stroet 3-6, 3-6.
LSU’s (13-7, 3-5) Staten Spencer cruised past Mimi Renaudin 6-1, 6-1 on court six as she tied the score at 2-2.
Lady Tiger Hannah Robinson dropped her match to Gabriela Rangel 3-6, 6-7 (1) on court five. On court four, Nicole Kantor lost her match to Abigail Guthrie 5-7, 2-6 as Guthrie clinched the overall match for the Rebels.
On court two, Mykala Hedberg finished last as she fell short to No. 80 Karen Nijssen in a three-set battle 4-6, 6-3, 2-6.
The Lady Tigers will round up their Mississippi weekend against Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
