Men’s Tennis Brings Momentum to Ole Miss Match

BATON ROUGE — The 32nd-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will host second-ranked Ole Miss to begin the last three of its home matches Friday at 1 p.m. in W.T. Robinson Stadium.

The Tigers return to Baton Rouge after two tough Southeastern Conferences matches on the road. Most recently, LSU competed against South Carolina at the Sam Daniels Tennis Complex in Columbia, S.C. In the competition, LSU rolled to a 5-1 upset of the then-17th-ranked team.

LSU (7-9, 2-6 SEC) holds a 43-12 mark over Ole Miss in the all-time series. Leading the Tigers into competition on Friday is sixth-ranked senior Michael Venus with a 10-5 record and a six-match win streak.

Venus is also ranked as part of the No. 8 tandem with partner Neal Skupski. The duo is 9-7 on the season. Individually, Skupski ranks just behind Venus in victories. The 6-1 freshman posts at 9-6 in singles and is also riding a win streak, five-straight matches.

Ole Miss (18-2, 8-0) features 23rd-ranked senior Jonas Berg with an 11-3 record. In addition to Berg, Devin Britton posts at No. 29, Kalle Norberg at No. 37 and Bram tenBerge at No. 122.  In doubles, Berg and tenBerge rank No. 2 and hold a 13-6 record on the season.

The Rebels are one of two SEC teams the Tigers will take on at W.T. Robinson Stadium for the weekend. LSU also hosts 69th-ranked Mississippi State on Sunday in a match scheduled for 1 p.m.
