BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team wrapped up a weekend road trip to College Station, Texas, with a hard-fought 0-0 draw with national power Texas A&M and a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of BYU in a Saturday afternoon double header at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers are now 3-1-2 on the spring as they are set to wrap up the exhibition season with a trip to Orange Beach, Ala., to take on SEC Western Division rival Auburn on April 18.
“We’ve had an outstanding spring season competing against many of the best teams in women’s college soccer,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “This weekend was another opportunity for our team to compete against two outstanding clubs in Texas A&M and BYU that are among the best in our sport year in and year out. We’re looking forward to our final spring match next weekend.”
The highlight of the spring season is a dominating 3-0 shutout of the reigning Big 12 champions from Oklahoma State as the Tigers routed the Cowgirls in Austin, Texas, back on Feb. 28. LSU is also the winner of matches against Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana this spring.
After wrapping up the spring season against Auburn next weekend, the Tigers will continue their preparation for the 2009 campaign through their outstanding strength and conditioning program.
LSU will enter the fall as the two-time defending SEC Western Division champions after earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons. Not only that, but the Tigers finished the 2008 season ranked No. 14 nationally in the final Soccer America Top 25 following a 14-4-2 overall record and school record 7-3-1 mark and No. 2 finish in the SEC standings.
