BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. — The ninth-ranked LSU women’s golf team concludes the spring regular season portion of the schedule looking to move forward as it heads toward the SEC Championships in two weeks as it tees off Friday in the 12th annual Bryan Park National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center.
A total of 18 teams will tackle the par 72, 6,386 yard course and many of the teams hope to get 54 holes in this weekend after being limited to just one round last Sunday after two days of bad weather at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.
LSU will be joined by co-hosts Wake Forest and North Carolina Greensboro along with Arkansas, College of Charleston, East Carolina, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, UNC Wilmington, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, TCU and Virginia.
“We’re hopeful the weather will cooperate this weekend for all the teams,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We need to get 54 holes in before our conference tournament. We have played very good golf this spring and just need to come out here and really put things together in preparation for the post-season. I want to see the girls have to play three rounds to go through the things they will face in a three or four day event as we move forward.”
In 2006, LSU played two of its best rounds back-to-back in school history when LSU fired back-to-back even par rounds to put itself in position to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the NCAA East Regional.
LSU will go with a lineup that has played most of the year featuring sophomores Megan McChrystal and Amalie Valle, freshmen Jacqueline Hedwall and Tessa Teachman and senior Caroline Martens. McChrystal is averaging 72.4 for the season, while Valle is at 74.0 and Hedwall 74.6.
The 54-hole event runs through Sunday. LSU goes off on the back nine Friday in the first round beginning at 7:20 a.m. CDT. Live scoring for the event can be found at LSUsports.net through Golfstat.com.
