BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team faces a tough challenge as it plays host to No. 16 Florida. First serve is slated for Friday at 3 p.m. CDT at the W. T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
No. 24 LSU (11-6, 1-4 SEC) is coming off of a, 7-0, loss at Tennessee on Sunday. Florida (10-6, 4-2) enters the match tied for second with Arkansas in the SEC standings.
“We need to come out with the right attitude. This is a big weekend for our seniors,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “This is a great opportunity for us to play a very talented Florida team. We need to bounce back from our Tennessee match.”
The Gators feature two ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team. In singles, sophomore Marrit Boonstra leads the way as she checks in at No. 8. Junior Anastasia Revzina is ranked No. 38.
In doubles, the Gators are led by Jessica Alexander and Revzina who list at No. 43 in the latest rankings. The duo has notched 11 victories so far this season.
Four gators possess records with 10 or more wins, led by Boonstra, who holds a 27-5 record and is undefeated in dual matches this season.
For LSU, 17th-ranked Megan Falcon enters the match with a 26-6 record and is 10-6 against ranked opponents. Falcon is 14th on the all-time wins list in LSU’s program history as she carries an outstanding 91-16 career record.
Falcon and senior Mykala Hedberg form the nation’s 17th-ranked doubles team. The pair leads the Lady Tigers in dual match victories as they are 12-1 on the season. Hedberg has claimed an impressive 84 doubles match victories in her career.
The Lady Tigers have their work cut out for them as Florida leads the all-time record against LSU 34-0.
