BATON ROUGE — The No. 21 LSU softball team is partnering with the Baton Rouge Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and will play host to its inaugural “Swing for the Cure” game Sunday, April 5 against No. 6 Tennessee. First pitch against the Volunteers is slated for 1 p.m. on Fox Sports Net.
“We are delighted to have this association with the LSU softball program,” Komen Baton Rouge Affiliate Board of Directors member Angela Miller said. “We also are extremely thankful to Head Coach Yvette Girouard, her staff and the team for their willingness to join us in the fight to end breast cancer and save lives,”
LSU will trade in their traditional home jerseys for pink uniforms donated by the LSU Softball Diamond Backers. The new Tiger Park will be decorated in pink, including the Tiger Eye in centerfield. Plans also include pink bases and pink base lines.
“We are excited to do our part in bringing awareness and raising money to aid in breast cancer prevention and research,” Girouard said. “There are so many families touched by this disease. Because we are women and this foundation is local it’s a natural ?Swing for the Cure’ event. The Tigers hope that the stands are packed and the outfield berm is ?pinked out’ for this game.”
Breast cancer survivors who pre-register online will be acknowledged on the field during pregame as part of the event. Survivors will be treated to free admission, a pink T shirt, special seating and a meet and greet party post-game with the LSU players.
The deadline for required registration is Thursday, April 2. A link to register for the event is above.
“Swing for the Cure allows us to celebrate survivorship, create awareness and raise funds,” Miller said. “Louisiana leads the nation in breast cancer mortality. We really appreciate the support of our state’s flagship university. On behalf of the Komen Affiliate, I want to invite all LSU fans to join us as we ?pink out’ Tiger Park and cheer on LSU.”
Fans also have the opportunity to bid on LSU sports memorabilia through a silent auction (list of items), including the pink game jerseys worn by the Tigers. Other items set for auction are three Marrucci bats, a pink Easton batting helmet signed by Girouard and a Jennie Finch signed poster donated by Mizuno. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Baton Rouge Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
If there are any questions on auction items or would like to donate any items, please contact Director of Softball Operations Adam Roorbach via email adamr@lsu.edu
Fans can already get involved by printing out and completing the donation card above. Cards will be collected at the new Tiger Park on gameday or be mailed with check payable to “Komen for the Cure” to:
