Ross Continues LSU’s Streak of Pitching Honors

BATON ROUGE — LSU right-hander Austin Ross was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday by the league office.

The honor marks the third straight week in which an LSU pitcher has captured the award. Right-handers Louis Coleman and Matty Ott were named SEC Pitcher of the Week on March 16 and March 23, respectively.

The LSU pitching staff leads the SEC with a 3.44 cumulative ERA.

Ross, a sophomore from Shreveport, La., delivered a superb performance in Sunday’s win over Ole Miss, limiting the Rebels to one run on two hits in eight innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Ross fired 89 pitches in the outing, and he allowed just one Ole Miss runner to advance beyond first base.

Ross improved to 4-2 on the season with a 2.48 ERA in 36.1 innings. He has recorded three walks and 33 strikeouts, and opponents are hitting just .200 against him.

Ross received SEC Pitcher of the Week recognition for the second time this season. He also earned the honor on March 2 after working six shutout innings with no walks and 10 strikeouts against Central Florida.

Second-ranked LSU (21-6) returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when the Tigers face Tulane at Turchin Stadium.
