Women’s Tennis Returns to Road, Travels to UT

BATON ROUGE — For the first time in almost three weeks, the 21st-ranked LSU women’s tennis team will go on the road to battle No. 13 Tennessee Sunday in Knoxville, Tenn. on the Varsity Tennis Courts at noon.
 
LSU (11-5, 1-3 SEC) is looking to rebound after losing to No. 2 Georgia, 4-2. 

“Tennessee is always a tough match, especially on the road,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We need to find a way to bounce back and hopefully get some momentum.”

Tennessee (10-4, 3-2) lost, 4-3, at the hands of No. 23 Arkansas on Friday.

Senior 15th-ranked Megan Falcon leads the Lady Tigers as she notched another victory over a nationally ranked opponent when she took down No. 52 Yvette Hyndman of Georgia. Falcon holds a 26-5 record on the season and a 91-15 record for her career.

St. Louis, Mo., native Nicole Kantor follows closely behind Falcon with 22 victories for the season.

Falcon and partner Mykala Hedberg form LSU’s top duo as they are ranked 14th in the nation. The pair is undefeated in dual match play for the 2009 season as they carry a 12-match win streak.

The Lady Vols highlight No. 48 Caitlin Whoriskey as she has 16 wins overall and six over nationally ranked opponents. Sophomore Jennifer Meredith runs on a 9-match win streak as she is 20-9 on the season. Whoriskey and Natalie Pluskota lead Tennessee as the 32nd-ranked doubles team with a 6-3 record.

Tennessee leads the all-time series against LSU 21-12.
