Women’s Tennis Resumes SEC Play, Faces No. 2 Georgia

BATON ROUGE — After a 12-day rest from conference play, the 21st-ranked LSU women’s tennis team will duel the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs Friday at 2 p.m. CDT at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.

The Lady Tigers enter the match fresh off of a victory over Oregon Wednesday. Junior Nicole Kantor clinched the overall match in singles without the doubles point as it was not played due to the threat of inclement weather.

“This is going to be a great challenge for us. Georgia is ranked No. 2 in the country and has an outstanding team. They have several ranked players,” said head coach Tony Minnis.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge and excited to play.”

Fifteenth-ranked Megan Falcon leads the Lady Tigers as she has earned an outstanding 90-15 career record and is tied for 14th on the all-time wins list. Falcon is one of four Lady Tigers who have notched double-digit match victories as she has 25, Mykala Hedberg and Whitney Wolf have 12 and Nicole Kantor has 22.

LSU (11-4, 1-2 SEC) showcases 14th-ranked Falcon and Hedberg as they are running on a 12-match win streak. The duo holds a 24-3 season record.

No. 2 Georgia (13-2, 3-1) features four ranked singles players and three ranked doubles teams. The highest ranked singles player is freshman No. 9 Chelsey Gullickson as she leads the team in wins with a 27-8 record including a win over Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech, who was the 2008 NCAA singles champion.

Gullickson and Yvette Hyndman form the Bulldogs’ top duo as they are ranked 11th and carry an 18-9 season record.

The Bulldogs lead the Lady Tigers 30-1 in the all-time series record.
