BATON ROUGE — Members of the LSU gymnastics team will offer their services Saturday to help with the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority pancake breakfast.
The breakfast will begin at midnight and end at noon Saturday at the Zeta house on Lakeshore Drive, and the gymnastics team will arrive at 9 a.m. to help the Zeta’s in their cause to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
The team is expected to sign autographs at the fundraiser as well as serve coffee and pancakes to those who donate money.
Tickets are $5 in advance and can be purchased through members of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and tickets are $7 at the door.
“Any time anybody is involved in a breast cancer situation, the Zeta’s try to get involved,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “This pancake breakfast means a lot to us because of the Zeta’s efforts in the two Etta James Memorial Meets we have held to support Foundation56. I really appreciate the Zetas for their help in those meets.”
With the help of the Zeta’s the LSU gymnastics program reached its goal of raising over $50,000 at the Second Annual Etta James Memorial Meet on March 7.
The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority partnered with the gymnastics team for the meet by accepting donations and handing out pink ribbons and pink shirts, among other prizes.
“I think it is important to help raise money for breast cancer because breast cancer is a prevalent disease in women,” senior Lauren Klein said. “It could happen to anybody. It’s good to raise money for research in order to help find a cure.”
LSU (16-5) will be back in action at 5 p.m. CDT on April 4 at the Central Regional hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
