BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Rachel Mitchell and Nicholls’ Audrey Wood picked LSWA Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week accolades Wednesday as voted upon by the LSWA. Both players also earned accolades from their respective conferences earlier in the week.
A junior outfielder for the Tigers, Mitchell became the fifth LSU player to earn NFCA National Player of the Week joining former All-Americans Trena Peel, Britni Sneed, Kristin Schmidt and Emily Turner. Five of Mitchell’s six hits produced runs as the Texas native racked up 11 of LSU’s 22 RBIs last week.
A junior pitcher for the Colonels, Wood notched a pair of victories over Texas State allowing seven hits over 14.0 innings. She held the Bobcats to a .146 batting average and was touched up for only one unearned run during the last two games of the series.
It’s the first weekly award for Mitchell and Wood from the LSWA.
