BATON ROUGE — After a weekend of rest, the No. 21 LSU women’s tennis team will square off against Oregon Wednesday at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium at 3 p.m.
With wins over Tulsa and Grambling State last week, head coach Tony Minnis is only one win away from 250 for his career.
The Ducks are led by senior Carmen Seremeta who is 9-15 on the season. In doubles, Oregon (7-8, 0-0 Pac-10) features 39th-ranked Ana Cecilia Olivos and Pavlina Smatova. The duo checks in at 10-9, including a win over No. 15 Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna of 22nd-ranked Arizona State.
“Oregon is a very tough team. Last time we played against each other, they beat us at home. We are expecting a tough match in the Pac-10, which is a very good tennis conference. We have to come out ready to play,” said Minnis.
LSU (10-4, 1-2 SEC) showcases 15th-ranked senior Megan Falcon as she enters the match with a sparkling 90-15 singles record. She is tied for 14th place on the all-time wins list in LSU history.
Falcon and partner Mykala Hedberg are ranked 14th in the nation as they lead the Lady Tigers with a 24-3 record on the season.
The teams met for the first time in 2002 as Oregon defeated LSU, 5-2.
The Lady Tigers jumped two spots in the latest team rankings released by the Campbell’s/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday. Singles and doubles rankings remained the same as they will be released March 31.
