Men’s Tennis Climbs to No. 31 in ITA Rankings

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team climbed four spots to No. 31 in the Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released by the ITA on Tuesday.

The Tigers (6-6, 1-3 SEC) move up in the rankings following an upset over the former 27th-ranked University of South Florida, 4-3, and a narrow-margin loss to then 15th-ranked Texas A&M, 3-4.

LSU’s ninth-ranked senior Michael Venus remains at No. 9 as well as at No. 12 with freshman doubles partner Neal Skupski as the singles and doubles rankings were not released this week.

The Southeastern Conference maintained a solid presence in the rankings as all 12 teams appeared in the rankings, including Georgia, LSU’s next opponent, who ranks third in the nation.

The Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs square off in a 5 p.m. CDT match on Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
