Clare-Kearney Named to SEC Community Service Team

BATON ROUGE — LSU senior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney was named to the Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Community Service Team for the second straight year, the league office announced Wednesday.

The SEC sponsors a Community Service Team for each of the 20 sports it sponsors. The Gymnastics Community Service Team represents seven SEC gymnasts, one from each competing institution. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.

In the fall of 2008 Clare-Kearney volunteered for the Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful Hurricane Debris Cleanup, and she also participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Walk.

During Halloween, Clare-Kearney volunteered at LSU’s annual Halloween BOOzar, and she was a part of LSU’s Big Buddy Program’s Evening of Champions. Clare-Kearney was a volunteer for the Christmas with the Tigers, and she helped with the Operation Christmas Child campaign to buy toys for needy children and spend time with them.

Clare-Kearney also served as a volunteer for the McMains Children’s Development Center’s Bike Race and Adapted Bike Day, and she represented the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the 2008-09 President.

In the gym, Clare-Kearney was the 2008 SEC Co-Gymnast of the Year and the SEC All-Around and Floor Exercise Champion. She is a two-time NCAA All-American and is tied with former LSU great April Burkholder for the most career individual titles with 109.

Clare-Kearney earned her undergraduate degree in August 2008 with a degree in English and a concentration in creative writing, and she currently holds a 4.0 GPA in graduate school majoring in Kinesiology with a concentration in sport management.

No. 4 LSU will return to action Saturday at 4 p.m. CDT in the SEC Championship in Nashville, Tenn. Tickets are only $15 and can be purchased by calling the LSU Athletics Ticket Office at 225-578-2184 or in person by visiting the Ticket Office on the first floor of the LSU Athletic Administration Building.
