@LSUsports Now on Twitter

BATON ROUGE — In an effort to keep fans updated with the latest information on what’s going on in LSU athletics, the athletic department has launched a Twitter site.

LSU’s Twitter site can be accessed from www.lsusports.net/twitter, which gives fans the opportunity to sign up to receive text-message length updates on their cell phone or through the Internet. The updates are done periodically throughout the day by members of the LSU athletic department.

In order to become a follower of @LSUsports, fans must first create a Twitter account, which is free, at www.twitter.com.

“As technology continues to evolve, we are trying to remain on the cutting edge of providing information to our fans,” sports information director Michael Bonnette said. “This new feature allows our fans to get instant information via their mobile device on LSU athletics. Updates can be as simple as a score update for a particular sporting event or breaking news. This new application affords us the opportunity to provide our fans these instant updates.”

LSU senior associate sports information director Kent Lowe will be “tweeting”, which is the Twitter term for text message updates, courtside during LSU’s opening round NCAA Tournament game tomorrow against Butler in Greensboro, N.C.

In the department’s first social networking effort, more than 4,600 people have become “Fans” of LSU Athletics on Facebook.
