BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s swimming and diving team received Academic All-American Team honors by the College Swim Coaches Association of America, the organization announced recently.
The women’s squad maintained an average grade point average of 3.03 for the fall semester of 2008. Senior Victoria Givens, who holds a cumulative GPA of 3.824 in biological sciences, earned a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester, and 16 student-athletes on the team recorded a 3.0 or higher.
“This accomplishment is all a part of being a student-athlete at LSU, where you are expected to perform in the classroom as well as the pool,” LSU head coach Adam Schmitt said. “It is something for this team to be very proud of achieving.”
The Lady Tigers will return to action this Thursday as four athletes represent the team at the 2009 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in College Station, Texas.
