LEXINGTON, Ky. — The LSU men’s tennis team continues Southeastern Conference competition on the road as the Tigers travel to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in an 11 a.m. CDT match at the Hillary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
In LSU’s first match of the weekend, the Tigers defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores in a back-and-forth match in which the Tigers emerged victorious by a 4-3 mark.
“Kentucky is one of the best teams in the nation and we are going to need everyone t play as well and fight as hard as they did against Vanderbilt ,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said.
LSU (5-4, 1-2 SEC) leads the all-time series against Kentucky with a 30-11 record over the Wildcats. Last year, LSU overcame delays due to inclement weather, including light snow, as they rose to a victory over Kentucky in W.T. Robinson Stadium, 4-0.
This year’s clash between LSU and Kentucky has the potential to feature three nationally-ranked singles players as well as a two nationally-ranked doubles teams on the tennis courts.
Kentucky (9-4, 2-3 SEC) holds the No. 2 singles player in the nation in senior Bruno Agostinelli. The Wildcats also have 99th-ranked Eric Quigley. In addition to Agostinelli’s singles ranking, the Niagra Falls native joins with sophomore Brad Cox to make the No. 20 doubles team.
For LSU, senior Michael Venus leads the Tigers in the rankings, listing in the Campbell/ITA rankings at No. 9. Along with freshman partner Neal Skupski, Venus also lists in doubles rankings at No. 13.
