BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team heads to Nashville, Tenn. for their first road match of the Southeastern Conference season in a 2 p.m. match on Friday against Vanderbilt at the Brownlee Currey Jr. Tennis Center.
LSU leads Vanderbilt in the all-time series with a 43-14-1 record against the Commodores. The last meeting between the two was during the 2007-08 season in W.T. Robinson Stadium. The Tigers swept doubles competition and defeated Vanderbilt on every singles court except one as LSU cruised to a 6-1 victory.
At this year’s match, both LSU and Vanderbilt feature nationally ranked doubles teams.
“Vanderbilt is another tough SEC team, and we will have to put it all together all at the same time in order to improve on last weekend, ” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “We had a good week of practice and we will see how it turns out, but we are eager to get back out there.”
LSU (4-4, 0-2 SEC) holds a top 15 duo in 13th-ranked Michael Venus and freshman Neal Skupski with a 5-3 record. In addition to his ranking with Skupski, Venus holds the position of the 9th-ranked singles player in the nation with a 3-4 record.
Vanderbilt (4-8, 0-2 SEC) holds a pair of ranked doubles teams with 30th-ranked Adam Baker and Alex Zotov and 58th-ranked Nick Cromydas and Bryant Salcedo. Baker and Zotov are 5-6 on the season when paired together and Cromydas and Salcedo lead the Commodores in doubles with a 6-5 record.
