BATON ROUGE — With the 2009 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships set to begin Friday, the Lady Tigers enter the competition ranked No. 3 nationally with the Tigers moving up to No. 6 in the latest power ranking released by the coaches on Wednesday.
The latest collegiate track and field power ranking released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association comes just two days after the list of athletes accepted to compete in the NCAA meet was released by the NCAA selection committee.
The Lady Tigers are the nation’s third-ranked team for the second-straight week, while the Tigers have moved up one spot to No. 6 after being ranked seventh a week ago.
The Lady Tigers are among the title contenders at this year’s NCAA Indoor Championships as they have a total of 10 chances to score in nine different events, while the Tigers have six chances to score in six different events. The women’s team was the national runner-up a year ago with the men’s team earning a fourth-place finish in the final team standings.
The 2009 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships are set to kick off Friday as the two-day meet will be held at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. This year’s men’s and women’s indoor national champions will be crowned in a ceremony following the final day of action on Saturday.
