BATON ROUGE — Baseball first baseman/catcher Sean Ochinko and gymnastics junior Susan Jackson were named LSU Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Week this week.
In five games last week, Ochinko batted .500 with three doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs and seven runs scored. The junior from Parkland, Fla., hit grand slams in back-to-back wins at New Orleans and at home against Mississippi Valley State.
He followed last week’s performance with another big night Tuesday at Southeastern Louisiana, going 1-for-2 from the plate with a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored.
Baseball hosts Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday before opening SEC play against Kentucky in a three-game series starting Friday at 7 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium.
Jackson was named SEC Gymnast of the Week after she posted a career-high all-around score of 39.700 against North Carolina State on Saturday, leading LSU to its second-highest team score of the season, a 197.150.
The native Texan won three event titles and scored a career-high 9.950 on beam, a season-high 9.925 on floor and tied a season high with a 9.925 on bars.
The Tigers, now ranked No. 6 in the country, will next travel to Shreveport, La., to compete against Centenary Friday at 7 p.m.
