BATON ROUGE — First baseman/catcher Sean Ochinko of LSU and pitcher Dylan Moseley of Louisiana Tech were named Tuesday as the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Baseball Players of the Week.
Ochinko, a junior from Parkland, Fla., was named Hitter of the Week as he hit .500 (10-for-20) in five games last week with three doubles, four homers, 14 RBI and seven runs scored. Ochinko hit grand slams in consecutive games ? at New Orleans last Tuesday and versus Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday. The grand slam against MVSU was the game-winning hit, as it erased a 4-3 deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Ochinko is hitting .458 (22-for-48) on the year with four doubles, four homers, 23 RBI and 12 runs.
Moseley, a senior right-hander from Texarkana, Ark., was named Pitcher of the Week as he pitched nine masterful innings in the Bulldogs’ 10-0 win over Eastern Michigan on Sunday. He allowed only six hits and one walk, while striking out two batters.
The outing was Moseley’s first complete game since April 15, 2007 at Sacramento State. Moseley is 2-1 on the season with a 2.00 ERA, and he possesses the sixth-best earned run average in the Western Athletic Conference.
