BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team remained unbeaten for the spring season after battling Mississippi State to a 1-1 draw and shutting out Southern Miss by the score of 1-0 on Saturday in a double header at Pelican Park in Mandeville, La.

With Mississippi State holding a 1-0 lead late in the contest, junior All-SEC midfielder Melissa Clarke drew level by converting a penalty kick with five minutes to go. The Tigers then blanked a Southern Miss squad by a 1-0 margin with the only goal of the match by junior Brittany Lowe.

The Tigers are now 2-0-1 in three spring exhibition matches that also includes a crushing 3-0 win over seventh-ranked Oklahoma State at the Lonestar Showcase in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 28.

“We certainly appreciate the Mandeville Soccer Club for having us out this past weekend for two great games in one of the great soccer communities in this state,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “Shane Jeanfreau and Mike Ortner did an outstanding job of putting the event together, and we do appreciate all of their hard work in bringing the sport of soccer to a place like Mandeville.

“This is a community that has been very good to our program over the years, and we love the fans that we have from this area. They are a big reason why LSU soccer is where it is today.”

LSU will return to the pitch on April 4 as it squares off against a pair of NCAA Tournament clubs in BYU and Texas A&M in a double header at the Aggie Soccer Stadium in College Station, Texas. The Tigers will then wrap up their six-game spring exhibition schedule on April 18 with a match against the Auburn Tigers at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.
