BATON ROUGE — Men’s basketball guard Marcus Thornton and women’s basketball forward LaSondra Barrett were named LSU Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Week this week.

Thornton, a senior from Baton Rouge, was named SEC Player of the Week and ESPN.com Player of the Week earlier this week after he led the Tigers to two huge wins over Florida and Kentucky.

In an 81-75 win over the Gators, Thornton posted 32 points, five assists and five rebounds and followed that with a 23-point effort, 15 in the final 10 minutes, in a 73-70 win at Kentucky.  The win over the Wildcats clinched the Tigers their second SEC Championship in four years.

Following Wednesday’s loss against Vanderbilt, men’s basketball will finish the regular season by traveling to Auburn on Saturday.

Barrett, a freshman from Jackson, Miss., helped the Lady Tigers stretch their winning streak to five games by leading the team in scoring in wins over #18 Tennessee and Ole Miss last week.

Barrett scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half against the Lady Vols as LSU was able to pull out a close win at home, 63-61. Against the Lady Rebels in her home state of Mississippi, the 6-2 forward again scored 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting in a 59-48 win.

The Lady Tigers travel to Little Rock, Ark., on Thursday and will play the winner of Mississippi State vs. South Carolina Friday at 9 p.m.
