Four Lady Tigers Invited to NCAA Swim Meet

BATON ROUGE — LSU senior swimmers Katherine Noland, Monica McJunkin and Katie Gilmore and sophomore Jane Trepp received invitations to the women’s 2009 NCAA Championships on Wednesday night.

The women’s meet will be held March 19-21 at Texas A&M’s Student Rec Center Natatorium.

“I am very proud of the women who have qualified for the NCAA Championships and that they will have an opportunity to represent LSU at the meet,” LSU head coach Adam Schmitt said. “With our relays being ranked so high and our outstanding individual performances thus far, I do hope we can take that momentum into the meet and be in that top-15.”

The LSU women will have a great opportunity to score points and claim All-America honors in relay competition as the foursome will compete in four of the five relay races ? the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays and the 200 and 400 medley relays.

In addition, Noland, Gilmore and Trepp have each earned the right to compete in the maximum of three individual races, and McJunkin qualified in her signature event, the 100 backstroke.

Noland, a product of Deerfield, Beach, Fla., will swim in the 100 and 200 freestyle races and the 100 butterfly, while Gilmore, a native of Loxley, Ala., will take part in the 50 free sprint, 100 free and 100 fly.

Trepp will race in three separate stroke disciplines as the versatile talent from Tallinn, Estonia qualified in the 50 free, 100 breast and 100 fly. McJunkin, one of the team’s co-captains, captured a top-25 seed in the 100 back with her school-record time of 53.07 seconds.

Moreover, freshman diver Katie Lybbert will attempt to qualify for NCAA’s at the Zone ?B’ Diving Regional in Knoxville, Tenn., March 13-15.
