Jones Wins Third-Straight USA Indoor Title

BATON ROUGE — Former Lady Tiger and U.S. Olympian Lolo Jones continued her domination of the 60-meter hurdles at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston this past weekend as she won her third-straight national title in the event during Sunday’s competition.

Not only that, but Jones captured the Visa Championship title and the $25,000 bonus it awards for the second year in a row after blowing away the competition with a time of 7.84 seconds in the final at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Jones was crowned this year’s Visa Championship Series winner by the slimmest of margins with her winning time as a 7.84 was required to retain her title.

“It was stressful because I do this every year. They tell you what you’ve got to run to get the extra bonus and I’m focused on just winning, so this year I was going to outsmart them and cover my ears when they announced what I had to run to win,” Jones said. “I had my hands on my ears, and I waited until I didn’t hear them talking anymore. When I took my hands off my ears, that’s when I heard them say 7.84. I thought, ?that’s what I’ve got to run?’”

Jones was the easy winner in Sunday’s final as Hyleas Fountain clocked a time of 7.98 to take the second spot followed by Shantia Moss in third with a time of 8.15.

Jones captured the Visa Championship title by just two points with a total of 1,202 points after an impressive win the 60-meter hurdles. Pole Vaulter Jenn Stuczynski finished second in the race for the title with 1,200 points. Stuczynski broke her own American record with a vault of 15-10.

This marks the second time in her career that Jones has won the Visa Championship title. The Visa Championship Series is a prestigious series of nationally televised USA Track & Field meets that feature the best athletes from Team USA and honors the top male and female performer each year during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
