BATON ROUGE — For her efforts against then ranked No. 26 Florida State and Southern in a doubleheader Sunday, 12th-ranked senior Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team was named the SEC player of the week by the league office Tuesday.
Against Florida State (6-2), Falcon picked up a three-set victory in singles over No. 23 Katie Rybakova 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. Falcon’s point evened the match at 2-2. Later that day, Falcon cruised past Southern’s Megan Wiltz 6-0, 6-1, as she gave LSU (6-2) their sixth and final point of the match.
The two wins advanced Falcon’s season record to 20-4 and brought her career record of 85-14 15 games closer to her 100th career victory.
In doubles, 15th-ranked Falcon and Mykala Hedberg took down the Seminoles’ tandem of Noemie Scharle and Federica Suess 8-3. Against Southern (0-3), the duo notched another victory over Kathryn Curtis and Megan Wiltz with a score of 8-2. The pair leads the Lady Tigers in dual matches at 7-0 with a season record of 19-3.
The Lady Tigers fell to Florida State in a hard-fought battle, 5-2, but bounced back to defeat Southern, 6-1.
No. 26 LSU will be on the road to take on ULL (0-5) Saturday on the Cajun Courts in Lafayette, La. at 2 p.m.
