BATON ROUGE — LSU sophomore women’s golfer Megan McChrystal was named National College Golfer of the Week Tuesday by GolfWeek Magazine.
McChrystal gave LSU its first individual champ since 2002 on Feb. 17 at the Central District Invitational firing a four-birdie, no-bogey final round 68 to win the tournament. The LSU women’s golf team, now ranked 12th in the latest GolfStat rankings and 11th in the GolfWeek/Sagarin performance rating, finished second in the event.
McChrystal, who is ranked No. 10, in the Golfstat Cup rankings nationally, stood on the 18th tee in a tie with Candace Schepperle of Auburn and watched Schepperle hit her approach on the green. McChrystal found herself off the green but the Stuart, Fla., native chipped in from 45 feet off a sandy lie for birdie and the victory.
McChrystal shot rounds of 71-74-68 to win the event with a score of 3-under 213. She leads the Tigers at 71.8 strokes per round for her 12 rounds this year.
The LSU women’s golf team is back in action next month when they play in the UCF Challenge in Orlando, March 8-10 and then will host the LSU Golf Classic at the University Club in Baton Rouge, March 13-15.
