BATON ROUGE — After a two week rest, the LSU women’s tennis team will be back in action Sunday to square off against No. 26 Florida State and Southern in a doubleheader at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

The 23rd-ranked Lady Tigers (5-1) last played against then ranked No. 27 Texas A&M, 4-3, in a four-hour duel that included two different locations due to rain delays. The Lady Tigers trailed Texas A&M 3-0 when the rain began, but rallied back to defeat the Aggies, 4-3. Texas A&M (3-2) has since jumped two spots in the rankings to No. 25.

Florida State (5-2) is led by three nationally ranked opponents with 48th-ranked freshman Noemie Scharle and sophomores No. 23 Katie Rybakova and No. 81 Federica Suess.

“Florida State is going to present a very stiff challenge. I think they’re an outstanding team. They have been ranked as high as 16th in the country this year, and we’re going to have to come out with our A-game,” said head coach Tony Minnis.

Through six matches, senior 12th-ranked Megan Falcon leads the Lady Tigers with an 18-4 season record and is undefeated in dual play at 5-0.

In doubles, LSU features the 15th-ranked tandem of Falcon and Mykala Hedberg. The duo is 17-3 on the season and 5-0 in dual matches.

The Lady Tigers are tied with the Seminoles at 8-8 in series play after they defeated the Lady Tigers, 5-2, in a hotly-contested match in Tallahassee last season.

Southern presents Kathryn Curtis, Megan Wiltz and Bethlehem Workeneh, who lead the team in singles at 1-1. The Lady Tigers lead Southern 2-0 in series play after they defeated the Jaguars, 5-2, last season in Baton Rouge.

“Southern has done a very nice job with their program over the past few years and gave us a tough match last year,” said Minnis. “We need to come out prepared and ready to go.”

First serve is set for noon against Florida State and 5 p.m. against Southern.
