BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s tennis players Megan Falcon and Mykala Hedberg jumped two spots to No. 15 in the latest rankings released Thursday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The tandem cruised past four nationally ranked opponents, including No. 41 DePaul’s 36th-ranked Dunja Antunovic and Kirsten Gambrell. The pair brings a 17-3 overall record to the courts and leads the team in dual matches at 5-0.
Falcon listed at No. 12 in the singles rankings, as she is 6-4 against nationally ranked opponents. She leads the Lady Tigers at 18-4 on the season and 5-0 in dual matches.
LSU (5-1) remained at No. 23 in team rankings. Six other SEC teams join the Lady Tigers in the top 25. Georgia moved up to No. 2, and Florida dropped to No. 12 with Vanderbilt and Arkansas following closely behind at 16th and 17th. Kentucky checked in at No. 20, and Tennessee stayed one spot ahead of LSU at No. 22.
All 12 SEC teams are ranked with Auburn coming in at No. 27 and South Carolina at No. 30. Ole Miss came in at No. 53 and Alabama at No. 65. Mississippi State rounded off the list for the SEC at No. 67.
The Lady Tigers will square off against 26th-ranked Florida State and Southern in a double header Sunday at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. The first serve is slated for noon against Florida State and 5 p.m. against Southern.
