“Be an LSU Gymnast for a Day!”

BATON ROUGE — Ochsner Health System and LSU are offering girls in southeast Louisiana the chance to be an LSU Gymnast for a Day by launching a contest which will culminate at the March 7 Etta James Memorial Meet for breast cancer awareness against NC State at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Girls 5 to 13 years-old can log on to www.ochsner.org and click on the “LSU Gymnast” icon to register to win. All entries must be submitted by March 2 at 5 p.m. Winners will be selected at random and announced on March 3.

The first 1,000 girls who register online will receive an autographed LSU gymnastics team poster. Three winners, one from each age group will be selected, will receive an LSU warm up suit, an autographed gym bag and four tickets to the meet.

The Etta James Memorial meet is a special event for us as we show our support for those impacted by breast cancer and seek to create community awareness of the illness,” says LSU Gymnastics Coach D-D Breaux. “We hope the fun and excitement associated with the contest will draw attention to the cause.”

The Etta James Memorial Meet is an annual event created through a partnership with the Bradie James’ Foundation 56/sole survivor fund, which helps organize similar events throughout the region in honor of James’ mother, who died of breast cancer in 2002. Bradie James is a former member of the LSU football Team and currently plays for the Dallas Cowboys.

Breast cancer affects thousands of woman and their loved ones every year, with more than 180,000 new cases estimated last year alone.

Ochsner, a Team LSU Partner, is the Official Healtcare Provider of LSU Athletics.

“Breast cancer is a highly cureable condition and can be diagnosed through routine, non-invasive screenings such as mammograms,” says Dr. Jay Brooks, MD, Chairman of Hematology/Oncology at Ochsner. “The LSU Gymnast for a Day contest seeks to put a spotlight on the need for women of all ages to learn more about their risk factors and encourage them to get regular screenings.”
