What is Foundation56?
Dallas Cowboys linebacker and Former LSU Tiger, Bradie James lost his mother, Etta, to breast cancer in 2002 and has since made a personal pledge to help fight against the disease. Bradie began the Foundation 56/Soul Survivors Fund whose specific purpose is to support breast cancer awareness and screenings. For more information, log on to www.Foundation56.org

A record crowd of 7,717 Tiger fans attended the first annual Etta James Memorial Meet last season when the Tigers faced Alabama, surpassing the goal of 7,500 fans.

This year’s goals are to surpass 8,000 fans in attendance and help raise more than $50,000 for Foundation56. If more than 8,000 fans attend the meet, a sizable donation will also be made to Foundation56.

“Last season we exceeded our goal to have 7,500 fans at the meet, but we have a new goal this season to have more than 8,000 fans come out and support the Tigers and Foundation56,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “I was so happy that the community helped us raise more than $30,000 last year, and we are excited to work with Bradie again this season because we want to reach new heights by raising $50,000 to support breast cancer awareness with Foundation56.”

Foundation56, which promotes early detection of the disease through screening opportunities for women in the Baton Rouge metro area, is part of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. More information can be found at www.Foundation56.org.

“My life was changed by that experience,” James said of his mother’s battle with the disease. “It fuels my drive to give and to do for others. My passion runs deep. Foundation56 is my way of truly making a difference and that difference is saving lives.”

Donations will be accepted at the meet, and fans can purchase various items at the meet to show their support. Fans can buy a pink ribbon for $1, a Foundation56 “pink” bracelet for $5, a Foundation56 t-shirt for $10 and a purple and pink boa and a “pink” bracelet for only $15.
