No. 14 Women’s Golf Tees Off Spring in Florida

PARRISH, Fla. — The 14th-ranked LSU women’s golf team opens its spring season at the Central District Invitational Monday at the River Wilderness Golf Club.

The Lady Tigers open a five-tournament spring portion of the season that includes the annual LSU Golf Classic at the University Club in Baton Rouge, March 13-15.

LSU is coming off a strong three-tournament fall swing that saw the Lady Tigers capture the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic in Knoxville.

The Central District event is hosted annually by Michigan State and will go with a two-day format that features 36 holes on Monday with 18 more on Tuesday. The par 72 course will play to 6,099 yards for the Invitational.

Joining LSU in the field with six teams in the Golfweek rankings include the host 19th-ranked Spartans and No. 10 Auburn, No. 8 Duke, Iowa State, Kansas, No. 21 Kent State, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, No. 17 Purdue, South Carolina, TCU and Texas.

LSU will go with a lineup of Megan McChrystal, Amalie Valle, Jacqueline Hedwall, Caroline Martens and Tessa Teachman. Sophomore McChrystal continued her strong play from her freshman year in the fall, averaging 72.0 strokes for nine rounds with two top 10 finishes, while freshman Hedwall had two top 20 finishes and a 74.3 stroke average.

“We are anxious to get the spring season underway,” said LSU Hall of Fame Golf Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We’ve been working hard and it will be interesting to see how we play and what we need to work on. We are playing two rounds the first day and we just need to grind it out and play hole-for-hole and stay in the game in what will be a long day for everyone.”

The first of two rounds begins with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. CST. Live scoring for the event can be found at LSUsports.net through golfstatresults.com.
