Johnson Speaks at African-American History Celebration

BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s basketball coach Trent Johnson was the featured speaker Thursday at the 2009 African-American History Celebration at the Russell Long Federal Courthouse in Baton Rouge.

Each February, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana and the federal agencies located in the federal courthouse gather to commemorate African American History Month. The ceremonies annually feature guest speakers, musical selections and participation by students from the local school systems.

The theme of this year’s celebration was “LSU Basketball: A Century Later.” The LSU men’s basketball program Jan. 30-31 celebrated its 100th anniversary of its first intercollegiate sanctioned game against outside competition.

The Tigers, 20-4 overall and 8-1 in the Southeastern Conference, take on Ole Miss at 6 p.m. Saturday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
