BATON ROUGE — For the second straight week the LSU women’s tennis team was listed as No. 23 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Tuesday.
LSU (5-1) defeated then-ranked No. 73 SMU (6-1) Feb. 6 in their home opener, 6-1. After falling to LSU, SMU dropped two spots to No. 75.
The Lady Tigers traveled to College Station, Texas to duel the Texas A&M Aggies. Despite a 3-0 deficit and two rain delays, the Lady Tigers rallied back to defeat the Aggies, 4-3. Even though the Aggies lost to LSU, they moved to No. 25 due to their 5-2 victory over Auburn. Auburn dropped two spots to No. 27. LSU’s next opponent, Florida State, is ranked just outside the top 25 at No. 26.
The two victories gave the Lady Tigers five wins over nationally ranked opponents.
The SEC brought in seven of its 12 teams to the top 25. Georgia placed sixth, and Florida was voted No. 10. Vanderbilt checks in at No. 16 with Arkansas following at No. 17 and Kentucky at 20th. Tennessee remained one spot ahead of LSU at No. 22.
The Lady Tigers will have a two-week break and will be back in action for a doubleheader against Florida State at noon and Southern at 5 p.m. CST at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge.
