BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team (4-1) heads to the Lone Star State to square off against the Texas A&M Aggies Sunday at 1 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Outdoor Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
The Lady Tigers added another victory over a nationally ranked opponent to their record when they defeated No. 73 SMU (6-1) Friday in Baton Rouge.
LSU swept the Mustangs in doubles, improving their streak of 31-0 in matches when clinching the doubles point.
Fifth-ranked Megan Falcon leads the team by entering the match with a 17-4 season record after dominating SMU’s top player, Natalia Bubien 6-1,6-2. Nicole Kantor continues her impressive play, following closely behind Falcon with a season record of 15-5.
Seventeenth-ranked Falcon and partner Mykala Hedberg raced past Bubien and Pavi Francis to win the first match of the doubles point, making their record 16-3.
No. 27 Texas A&M (3-1) claimed their first victory over a top 25 team when they defeated No. 25 Auburn at home. Leading in doubles, Stephanie Davidson and Morgan Frank hold a season record of 8-3. Frank and Sheri Olivier lead the team in singles with season records of 9-5 and 8-4.
“A&M just beat Auburn Friday. We always have battles with this team that are always really close. We expect more of the same Sunday. We expect this to be a really tough match,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We’ve got a little momentum going. We played against SMU pretty well Friday. Hopefully we can carry that into the match Sunday.”
After a four hour duel last season, the Lady Tigers fell to the Aggies, 6-1. The Aggies lead the Lady Tigers with a series record of 19-12.
