No. 19 Softball Falls to No. 10 Oklahoma

HONOLULU — The No. 19 LSU softball team lost an 8-0 decision to No. 10 Oklahoma Saturday to open day two of the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on the University of Hawai`i campus.

Oklahoma pitcher D.J. Mathis tallied six strikeouts and limited the LSU offense to singles by Rachel Mitchell and Anissa Young. .

The Sooners (2-1) offense put five runs on the board in the second inning behind a pair of two-out, two-run hits by Krystle Huey and Amber Flores.

“We’re fighting through some growing pains and the final score isn’t a true reflection of being a couple of inches away from making some spectacular plays on defense,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “Everything went Oklahoma’s way to their credit. I don’t think D.J. dominated us, but she did a good job of controlling our offense.”

Oklahoma added two runs on a Lindsey Vandever single in the third inning and tacked on an unearned run in the fifth inning for the final margin of 8-0.

LSU (1-1) returns to action later this evening against Hawai`i. First pitch against the Rainbow Wahine is slated for 11:00 p.m. with live stats available on LSUSports.net.
