BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team (3-1) moved up one spot to No. 23, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers defeated No. 63 DePaul Saturday in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The match marked the team’s third victory against a nationally ranked opponent this season.
With singles and doubles rankings being released Feb. 19, senior All American Megan Falcon held on to her individual ranking of five. She leads the team in singles play with a record of 16-4 on the season and 81-4 for her career. Falcon and partner Mykala Hedberg remain at No. 17 in doubles play, leading the team with a record of 15-3.
Eight of the SEC’s 12 schools are represented in the top 25. Georgia came in at No. 6 with Florida closely following at No. 7. Vanderbilt and Arkansas placed at 15th and 16th, respectively. Kentucky was ranked No. 20, and Tennessee was voted one spot ahead of LSU at No. 22. Auburn rounded off the list at 25th.
The Lady Tigers will square off against No. 73 SMU (4-0) in their home opener Friday at 3 p.m. at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
