Men’s Tennis Holds Spot in ITA Rankings

BATON ROUGE — The 16th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team maintained the No. 16 slot in the national rankings the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Tuesday.

The Tigers (1-1) launched into their dual season this past Saturday against last week’s No. 20 team Texas Tech at the ITA’s Kick-Off Weekend, hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

LSU pushed past Texas Tech by a 4-3 overall margin. In day two of the ITA inaugural event, the Tigers narrowly lost a five-hour battle with No. 12 Tulsa, 4-2.

All 12 teams from the Southeastern Conference are listed in the current rankings. Defending national champion Georgia holds the highest spot at No. 3. Following Georgia are Florida (No. 7), Tennessee (No. 8), Ole Miss (No. 9), Alabama (No. 19), Vanderbilt (No. 28), Auburn (No. 29), Kentucky (No. 31), Arkansas (No. 47), South Carolina (No. 51) and Mississippi State (No. 52). 

LSU returns to action on Saturday in its first home match of the season against No. 27 Rice slated for 1 p.m. at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
