BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team takes great pride in its community service efforts in Baton Rouge, and that was never more evident than on Saturday as 15 student-athletes spent time with the patients at a local hospital.
The group went room to room visiting with patients and their families, while playing games with the kids and signing autographs.
Among those who spent time with the kids on Saturday included juniors Malorie Rutledge, Courtney Alexander, Nikki Bush, Amanda Carreno, Veronica Godbolt, Brittany Lowe, Chelsea Potts, Rachel Yepez; sophomores Allysha Chapman and Taryne Boudreau; and freshmen Nazily Alcoser, Hannah Jobe, Kellie Murphy, Brittany Potts and Haley West.
“I think it was important because you could tell it lifted the spirits of the kids,” Yepez said. “They would be laying down really quiet and when we walked in they were laughing and giggling with us. I think they need more of that interaction, and we love coming to spend time with them.”
The squad has already begun its off-season strength and conditioning program and is set to begin its spring exhibition schedule on Feb. 28 with a trip to Austin, Texas, to take on the reigning Big 12 Conference regular season champion Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
