TULSA, Okla. — The LSU men’s tennis team is slated to begin the dual season against No. 20 Texas Tech in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Kick-Off Weekend hosted at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
“Starting the season against such a quality opponent has helped us focus in practice and the matches leading up to this point,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “We have a strong bracket for this tournament, and after these matches, we should know where we are for our first home match against No. 17 Rice.”
Texas Tech and LSU have crossed paths twice during the history of the LSU men’s tennis program with the two teams’ last meeting in 1995. The Tigers dominated the Red Raiders, posting a 7-0 mark.
Eight Tigers will represent LSU in the first dual match of the season. Mark Bowtell, Sebastian Carlsson, James Cluskey, Julien Gauthier, David Roberts, Neal Skupski, Jonathan Tragardh and Michael Venus are set to compete in the weekend’s matches.
Senior Venus highlighted the fall season with a 7-1 overall record and captured the 2008 D’Novo All-American Championship, becoming the first Tiger in the history of the program to win the event.
LSU faces Texas Tech in a 9 a.m. CDT match on Saturday to determine its second-round opponent in either Tulsa or Notre Dame.
