BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team jumped two spots to No. 24 in the latest national rankings released Thursday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The Lady Tigers opened the season ranked No. 26 and moved up after defeating No. 57 Colorado and No. 49 New Mexico earlier this month.
Once again, the SEC is well-represented in the top 25. Georgia and Florida both placed in the top 10, at sixth and seventh respectively. Vanderbilt and Arkansas came in at 12th and 14th. Kentucky was ranked No. 22, and Tennessee checked in one spot ahead of LSU at No. 23.
Only team rankings were released, so senior All-American Megan Falcon remained at No. 5 with a season record of 15-4 and a career record of 80-14. Falcon and senior Mykala Hedberg held steady at No. 17 in the doubles rankings, and the duo continues to lead the Lady Tigers with a record of 14-3.
The Lady Tigers (2-0) will be back on the courts Saturday to face No. 63 DePaul Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. CST in Los Angeles, Calif., at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
