BATON ROUGE — Some of the top names in LSU men’s basketball history will get the opportunity to suit up one more time for the purple and gold on Saturday, Jan. 31 as an Alumni Game will be held in conjunction with the 100-year celebration of the sport at the school.
The LSU Alumni Basketball Game leads off a day full of activities on the campus. Saturday will culminate with the announcement of the LSU All-Century team during halftime of LSU’s game against Arkansas. LSU and Arkansas will tipoff at 4 p.m. in the Maravich Center.
The LSU Alumni Game will get underway with player introductions for both teams beginning at 12:30 p.m. Tipoff for the contest is slated for 12:39 p.m. Doors to the Maravich Center will open just before noon.
The game will feature four, eight-minute quarters. The Alumni Game is free to the public and will include special interviews with players conducted by the Tiger PA announcer Dan Borne’ who will be joined by women’s PA voice Kevin Neely to describe the event for the fans.
Among the names highlighting the Purple and White rosters for Saturday include five players who were members of LSU’s Final Four team in 1981 along with two members of the 1986 Final Four squad.
Players from the 1981 Final Four team who will take part in Saturday’s Alumni Game include: point guard Ethan Martin, guard/forward Howard Carter, power forward Rudy Macklin, center Tyrone Black and guard/forward John Tudor.
Ricky Blanton and Nikita Wilson, both members of the 1986 Final Four squad, will also take part in the Alumni Game on Saturday.
The game will also feature 12 players who were selected in the NBA Draft, including three first round selections in Stanley Roberts, Howard Carter, and Geert Hammink.
The contest will include players from every decade dating back to the 1950s. Stanley Jacobs will represent the 50s as he starred for the Tigers from 1958-61. The 60’s will be represented by Dick Maile, who was a standout for LSU from 1962-65.
Carter and Blanton will serve as captains for the Purple squad, while Martin and Macklin will be the captains for the White team.
