BATON ROUGE — The LSU gymnastics team jumped three spots to No. 11 in the latest national rankings released Monday by GymInfo.
Despite falling to Georgia, 196.850-195.950, the Tigers improved their overall team season average to 195.008, which was what GymInfo used to calculate the top 25 this week.
Once again the SEC dominated the rankings as Florida held on to the top spot with a 196.500 season average while Georgia improved four spots to No. 4 as the GymDogs upped their average score to 196.137.
Auburn is ranked sixth at 196.092 while Arkansas is eighth (195.850) and Alabama is ninth (195.750). Kentucky, who LSU faces Friday, is the only SEC school not ranked in the top 25.
As a team LSU is also ranked in the top 10 in two events. The Tigers are second in the nation on vault with a 49.283 season average, which ranks just behind Utah’s 49.425 mark. LSU is ranked ninth on the floor exercise with a 48.792 season average. Florida leads the nation with a 49.312 average on floor.
Individually, two Tigers are ranked in the top 10 in two events. Junior Susan Jackson is tied for eighth nationally in vaulting with a 9.892 average. Senior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney is tied for second on vault with a 9.925 season average and is also ranked ninth on bars with a 9.867 average.
LSU (5-1, 0-1 SEC) will head back on the road to face Kentucky (1-1, 0-1) at 6 p.m. CST Friday in Lexington, Ky.
