LEXINGTON, Ky. — The LSU men’s tennis team had a solid performance Friday at the Southeastern Conference Coaches’ Indoor championship with wins in both singles and doubles.
Two Tigers notched singles wins in the first day of the tournament. LSU senior Jonathan Tragardh defeated Mississippi State’s Antonio Lastre and LSU’s Julien Gauthier notched a win against Kentucky’s Alex Lambropoulos in the first round of singles.
Defeating Lambropoulos in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, Gauthier kept his sophomore campaign going strong and pushed his overall record to 6-3 for the season.
With two victories in singles, the Tigers will have three representatives in the round of 32, including No. 1 seed Michael Venus who received a first round bye.
The LSU duo of Michael Venus and Neal Skupski highlighted the doubles portion of the tournament in day one as the No. 3 seed notched a victory against Kentucky’s Alberto Gonzales and Alex Musialek 8-1. The Tiger tandem will advance to the doubles main draw.
LSU’s Mark Bowtell and David Roberts defeated Mississippi State’s Louis Cant and Tanner Stump, 8-4, to mark the first victory for the Tigers in day 1 of the tournament as well as their first victory as a doubles team.
Consolation singles will begin at 8 a.m. CDT at the Hillary J. Boone Tennis Complex and will be followed by main draw doubles at 9 a.m.
