BATON ROUGE — Leading up to the upcoming 2009 softball season, LSUsports.net will get to know the 10 newcomers on the Tiger softball team. Today’s edition features infielders Courtney Hollier and Katie Hamilton.
Hamilton garnered All-Country First-Team honors from the Marietta Daily Journal while at Kell High School in Georgia.
“Managing my time between academics and softball has been a challenge, but I’ve got a lot of help adjusting,” Hamilton said. “It’s a privilege for me to put on the LSU uniform and I feel blessed every day I go to practice. I love playing here.”
Hollier’s was a two-time All-State selection in 2007 and 2008. She hit .500 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs as a senior. Her team at Kaplan High School won the Louisiana 3-A Championship in 2006.
“The biggest adjustment for me is that the speed of the game is quicker and everyone is at your level. It makes you work hard in practice every day,” Hollier said. “Being from Louisiana, it means a lot to me to play for LSU. I grew up a LSU fan so it’s a dream come true. Everyone I know is proud of me back home.”
LSU embarks on the 2009 season at the Paradise Softball Classic squaring off against Oklahoma, UAB and host Hawai`i from Feb. 5-7. The new Tiger Park opens against McNeese State on Feb. 11.

There are a limited number of chair-back seats still available for $100, while reserved bleacher seating is $75. Fans are encouraged to get their season tickets to guarantee great seats for LSU’s marquee home schedule that features six games against teams that made the 2008 Women’s College World Series.
