BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team gathered for a team dinner prepared by the players Tuesday evening to kick off the season.
The players divided into their Tiger teams and were responsible for different parts of the meal. Throughout the year, the four teams have the opportunity to earn points during activities ranging from success in the classroom to strength and conditioning competitions.
The Purple Peacocks consisting of Ashley Langoni, Tiffany Shaw and Cody Trahan prepared the main course. They were awarded five points for their efforts. Lauren Capello, Casey Faile, Courtney Hollier, Rachel Mitchell and Morgan Russell of the Bayou Bombshells tallied three points for the desserts.
The Tigers finished the evening watching a highlight DVD of the fall season.
“We’ve always done a lot of group activities to bring the team together before the season starts,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “It’s wonderful for the players and coaches to be in a different atmosphere with each other. Cody went above and beyond cooking a lot of awesome food. I also thought the desserts were very good. It’s a great way for us to set the tone for the upcoming season.”
LSU opens the 2009 season at the Paradise Softball Classic squaring off against Oklahoma, UAB and host Hawai`i from Feb. 5-7. The new Tiger Park opens against McNeese State on Feb. 11.
