BATON ROUGE — Coming of its 2008 Super Six appearance, the LSU gymnastics team completed its fall training with an open intersqaud meet on Friday night at the LSU Gymnastics Training Center.
The final team intersquad before the 2009 season was well attended and everyone there was treated to a great preview of this year’s team.
The LSU coaching staff felt that the level of difficulty was higher than it was at this time last year, as fans and friends of the program enjoyed an increased skill level specifically on floor exercise and uneven bars.
Another promising note was the team’s consistency through out the evening on all apparatuses. Head coach D-D Breaux stressed that consistency wins meets. If Friday’s intrasquad was any indication, this team will make another run at the NCAA’s elite event finals.
“The team’s training was delayed in the first three weeks of the season (due to Hurricane Gustav) so we are still doing some of our tumbling and dismounts into soft landing surfaces,” said Breaux. “The intersquad gave us an opportunity to see the girls compete in a pressure situation. This will help us decide on our lineup in the first couple of meets and plan our training in preparation for our opener on Jan. 2.”
Video highlights from the evening have been posted for free in the Geaux Zone on LSUsports.net.
