BATON ROUGE — The 2009 LSU gymnastics team again participated in Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child. Each member of the team and support staff put together a gift box that will be sent to children in need around the world.
“We have done this for the past few years and the kids really get into it,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. ” They feel that it is a gift that will end up somewhere in the world in the hands of a child in need. These boxes are bound for someone in great need.”
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. People of all ages can be involved in this simple, hands-on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas.
“The boys and girls who received these boxes may be facing war, natural disaster or poverty,” said reigning national champion Susan Jackson. “All we think about when we prepare these gift boxes is what would make the kids smile when they take the top off!”
