Former Tiger Davis to Host Thanksgiving Meal for Seniors

NEW ORLEANS — Former LSU wide receiver Craig ‘Buster Davis’ announced that he will host an inaugural Thanksgiving meal and morning of entertainment for seniors in need at The Suite Jazz Caf? in Algiers on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

The “Thanksgiving Celebration for Seniors” is dedicated to serving those 50+ from within the New Orleans community who otherwise would spend the day alone and face financial hardship. The intimate, brunch-style celebration will feature traditional Thanksgiving faire along with such Southern favorites as gumbo, jambalaya, and pralines for up to 100 guests selected from senior citizen residential housing, shelters, and church-run outreach programs.

Now playing professionally for the San Diego Chargers, Davis, 23, is excited about the first public event hosted by the Buster Davis Foundation, the charity he recently formed along with his sister and fellow NOLA native, Yorri Berry.

“Thanksgiving is a time of giving and sharing with those we love. I feel fortunate that I am able to do this for the people of New Orleans who don’t have the opportunity to spend the holiday with family or close friends,” Davis said. “Louisiana has given me a lot, and it’s my turn to give back. I feel that our seniors are to be treasured and respected. This event is one of many that we plan on doing in and around New Orleans supporting the needs of our seniors.”

Additional foundation events designed to support local causes include a holiday toy drive benefiting the children of incarcerated parents.

Davis and his sister intend for the foundation to support local causes in San Diego through similar events as well, including a Christmas dinner Davis will host with local youth.

Davis, a member of the Tigers’ 2003 National Championship team and four year letter winner at wide receiver, starred for the Tigers from 2003-2006. Although his midweek preparations for a home game in San Diego won’t allow him to personally welcome guests at the Celebration for Seniors, Davis is emphatic that he will be there in spirit. In his absence, Davis has said that he may have a few “special guests” on hand as fill-in hosts.

The Suite Jazz Caf? is located in Algiers off General DeGaulle Drive at 3580 Holiday Drive. Music, entertainment, and door prizes will be provided in addition to the meal for all in attendance. The event is open to the public, but seating is limited. The foundation asks interested parties to call Yorri Berry at 504-428-4806 for seating requests or more information.
