BATON ROUGE — A day after recording the biggest comeback in school history, LSU moved up two spots to No. 18 in the Bowl Championship Series Standings.
The Tigers ran their record t0 7-3 overall with Saturday’s 40-31 win over Troy in Tiger Stadium. LSU scored 37 unanswered points, including 30 in the fourth quarter, to overcome a 31-3 deficit to beat the Trojans.
LSU has a .2727 BCS average, which makes the Tigers the highest-rated three loss team in the BCS Standings. LSU’s three losses this year have comes to teams currently ranked among the top 11 in the BCS Standings ? No. 1 Alabama, No. 4 Florida and No. 11 Georgia.
Other three-loss teams in the BCS Standings include Oregon State (7-3) at No. 21, North Carolina (7-3) at No. 22, Miami (7-3) at No. 23, Oregon (8-3) at No. 24 and Maryland (7-3) at No. 25.
LSU is ranked No. 18 in the three other major polls – Harris Interactive, USA Today Coaches Poll, and the Associated Press Top 25.
The comeback win over Troy also enabled LSU to extend its streak of consecutive weeks in the top 25 as the Tigers have been ranked now for 95 consecutive weeks in the USA Today Coaches Poll and for 94 straight weeks in the AP Poll. The last time LSU failed to make the top 25 in either poll came following the Tigers loss to Texas in the 2003 Cotton Bowl to conclude the 2002 season.
LSU returns to action this week, hosting Ole Miss in the home finale for the Tigers. Kickoff for the Tigers and Rebels is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS.
